APRIL 15 - HOME GAME #3 vs Philadelphia Phillies (3-5)
The Mets go for a sweep of the Phillies with lefty Jon Niese (0-0) going up against Jerome Williams (0-0) on Jackie Robinson Day. David Wright was put on the 15 day disabled list with a mild hamstring pull suffered when stealing second last night. The Mets called up Eric Campbell from Las Vegas to take his place.
6-3 |
Lets Go Mets! The Mets backed up Jon Niese's 6 and 1/3 inning effort with 12 hits including home runs from the hot bats of Travis d'Arnaud [10 for 30 with 8 RBI] and Lucas Duda [12 for 34 with 7 RBI]. The lefty Niese pitched out of multiple jams and stranded eight runners. In the second inning the Mets scored in what would be runs in five straight innings. Missing 3B David Wright from the line up, Eric Campbell took the red eye flight from Las Vegas to fill in at third for the injured Mets captain, collecting a hit in his first at bat of the year and making a nice barehanded throw on an infield roller.

The Jackie Robinson Rotunda entrance at Citi Field |
Today was Jackie Robinson Day around baseball and every player and coach wore number 42 on their uniform to honor the baseball and social pioneer. Today's attendance was a little less than the previous two games and my seat was in the upper deck. A nice overhead view from this spot, there was a whole world up here I had not seen the first two games. During BP I climbed the nosebleed seats and got some pictures of downtown New York in the distance. A great view of the skyline from the upper most seats. For dinner I had a "Pat LaFrieda's Original Filet Mignon Steak Sandwich" without standing in a long line like the same food booth in lower center field always seems to have.

When I started planning for this trip, I figured I would take the LIRR to games as a convenient alternative to driving. My drive to the ballpark is about 20 minutes through surface streets and so easy [NO freeways!]. For me to take the commuter train, the nearest station is a couple miles away. By the time I took a cab to the train station and paid the fare, it was not that much savings over the Citi Field $22 parking fee. And I like being able to get to the park early and take my time leaving afterwards.
