Sharon Corr is, at every concert or performance or wherever The Corrs appear, able to look professional, but at the same time she seems to dream away sometimes, or she gives the audience a smile that keeps them spellbound. Sharon was born on March 24th, 1970, in Dundalk, as the second child of Gerry and Jean Corr. She started to play the piano as soon as she could, and at the age of six, she started to play the instrument we all know her from: the violin (and she is proud of the fact that she only missed one lesson!). Actually, three-year-old Caroline was supposed to play the violin but the teacher scared her and that’s when Sharon took her chance. She seemed to be born to do it and in a year she was playing second violin in a well-known youth orchestra, until she reached the age of fourteen. Very often, Sharon is seen as the most sophisticated member of The Corrs. She’s really a clever woman and also the most eloquent one when they’re doing an interview. She didn’t like to go to school though. She went to school at the Dun Lughaidh Convent and was suspended twice because of skipping school. After that she learned her lesson and she decided to concentrate on her schoolwork because skipping those lessons wasn’t really a good thing to do. Sharon also learnt French for 4 years and German for 3 years. Sharon had some jobs before the band was getting famous. As a teenager she used to work in Mc Manus’s (a pub), together with her sisters. Later, she was the manager of a record shop, a job that she enjoyed very much. When shooting the video for ‘Runaway’, Sharon met a man, called Gavin Bonnar. They stayed together for like six years and on the 7th of July 2001, they got married. They live together in Belfast. Sharon has a very various music taste. As a teenager she was a big fan of Paul Young. She loves classical music from Tsjaikovsky, Britten and Dvorák, but she also admires The Rolling Stones and bands like Crowded House. In the band, Sharon plays the violin and she sings backing vocals: most of the time the lower ones, while Caroline sings the higher tones. Sharon also sang the beautiful ‘No Frontiers’ together with Caroline, which reflects that Andrea isn’t the only one with a great voice. Sharon also knows how to play guitar and at the beginning of the ‘In Blue Tour’ 2000/2001 she used to play guitar while doing ‘Somebody For Someone’. After a few gigs she wanted the violin part back, because she was missing it. J Sharon also played keyboard onstage, while doing ‘Closer’. You can see that on the Lansdowne Road video and DVD. If you’d like to hear more from Sharon but not with The Corrs, there IS a possibility. She worked once with Jean Michel Jarre, a famous French composer. Together they worked on ‘Rendez-Vous à Paris’: Sharon plays a beautiful violin piece in there. Jarre had a lot of influence on Sharon. You can find that in ‘Rebel Heart’, a piece that she wrote for ‘In Blue’. Other Corrs-songs that she wrote are for example: ‘Radio’, ‘So Young’, ‘Say’ and ‘Rain’. I think The Corrs would miss a lot in their music, without Sharon. Sharon is irreplaceable, just like the other members of The Corrs. And onstage she makes a big impression: Her endless gaze is leaving everybody breathless.
