Short biography:

On August 19th, 1951, in Oadby, Leicester, John Richard Deacon was born. As he got older, he grew fond of the electronics world, but also had a strong interest in music. When he was seven, he received a plastic Tommy Steele guitar, and later, when he was eleven, he did odd jobs and paper rounds to save up to buy a proper albeit inexpensive guitar. Before long, him and his friends had formed a band, The Opposition, and John played rhythm guitar. But a year after, the bass player decided to leave, so John bought his first bass guitar and filled the vacancy.

Much later on, John saw an advertisement for a bass player and applied for it. The band in question was Queen, who had already been through a number of bassists.

Since then most of the few songs John wrote for the band were very popular, the most famous being I Want To Break Free, where it went to number 3 in the UK chart and has become one of Queen's most successful hits.

Although some videos and concerts show John singing into a microphone, he says that he has a terrible voice and therefore did not sing. This unusual layout may also explain why he is the only member not to have gone solo, though he helps out with his son's band Baker.
