Absu

Tara (Osmose~2001)

I know a lot of thought and effort must have gone into this release. The booklet alone contains a tremendous amount of information and serves as a good guideline to this complex concept album of Celtic lore. I really wanted to like the band’s brand of "mythological occult metal". I must admit I don’t quite get it. I’ve heard people rave about the brilliance of "Tara", and even though there are parts of this album I find impressive, I mostly hear pedestrian black metal with an annoying drum sound and terrible vocals that make this sound at times like a parody of black metal. I can definitely recommend the artwork and booklet. It’s just too bad the music isn’t worthy of the visual presentation.
