Holy Dead Trinity (World War III~2001)
Furious, blasphemous death metal from Poland? Count me in. This debut American release is actually a compilation of tracks from two previous albums: "Lord Is Avenger" and "Victims". The lyrical theme is anything but subtle, from the band’s straight-forward name to song titles such as "God Overslept", "Enter The Hell" and "Satan’s Horde". The non-stop anti-Christian rhetoric gets a bit tiresome after a while and the song structures aren’t too complex. Yet, a mixture of strong guitar melodies, excellent musicianship and well-executed vocal patterns keep the music interesting. I especially enjoy the vocal performance of Adam The First Sinner, whose brutal yet understandable growls fit in very well with the songs. This latest Polish assault may not break new ground or create a new genre, but it definitely has me eagerly awaiting the American release of "Cain’s Way" in June of 2002.
