Incantation

Blasphemy (Necropolis~2002)

Unholy goat horns! Be ready to be crushed when you pop this sucker into the CD player. With no warning, no fancy intro and no sound effects, Incantation quickly launches into a death metal assault on the opening title track, making it quite apparent they have no intention of straying from their musical path. "Blasphemy" is an appropriate title for an album filled with anti-Christian sentiments brewed in a heavy, dark, thick, intense sound. Led by guitarist John McEntee, the only remaining founding member, Incantation can rip out some great fast-paced death metal. But to me, their strength is the intensity and density they produce in the slower, methodical sections. You wonīt find any catchy tunes or even semi-happy melodies, but thereīs plenty of power in this latest release, which is definitely among the bandīs best to date. My favorite tracks are "Blasphemy", "Rotting With Your Christ", "His Weak Hand" and "Deceiver (Self-righteous Betrayer)".
