White Skull

The Dark Age (Frontiers~2002)

Since this is my first experience with White Skull, I´m not sure how Argentinian vocalist Gus Gabarro compares with his predecessor, Federica De Boni. I can tell you that Gabarro delivers a strong and emotional performance on "The Dark Age", which is a concept album based on the Inquisition. The band members´ performances are inpired but the sound is at times too keyboard-heavy for my taste. However, the album is strengthened by some awesome outburts of screaming guitars that make for good air-guitar moments. The proceedings close with a beautiful acoustic instrumental, "Theme For The Innocence". Overall, "The Dark Age" is a solid release, especially if you like melodic power metal.
