Biography / Discography:
CRITICAL MASS was a dutch Rave/Happy Hardcore group from the Mid-Nineties.
CRITICAL MASS was formed in 1994 by 2 Gabbaproducers, Ed Bout and Dave Hasselaar.
ID&T records (the centre of hardcore at that time) wanted a live act for gabbaparties.
At the beginning both producers where the act by themselves but not much later they integrated the singer
Ludmilla Odijk and the rapper Danny Haenraets alias MC Energy.
At the end of 1995 they got a hit with "Dancin' Together".
In 1996 3 big hits followed: "Burnin' Love", "Believe In The Future" and "Happy Generation".
They wanted to have success in whole Europe but that failed because ID&T was an underground gabba label in those years and had no professional marketing strategies. But they had big popularity at raves and gabba parties.
In 1997 another single followed called "Together In Dreams". The Summer of 1997 was the highlight of gabba music but in the autumn of that year it fell down.
In 1999 the group tried again with a trance single called "In Your Eyes", it became a clubhit.
"In Your Eyes" and "Together in Dreams" (both being eurotrance tracks, and not happy hardcore) were picked up by Byte Records. Byte Records is one of the major Belgian labels that brought around 2 Unlimited, Sylver, D-Devils, and many others. But even Byte failed to make CRITICAL MASS succeed.
When hardcore began to live again in the underground Ed and Dave decided to quit with it and go back to their roots.
"In Your Eyes" ("In Your Eyes") was released in Spain by Virtual Records in 2003.
