Gil Grand is an artist whose influences emerge in his music. His knowledge of traditional country music, the way he weaves the real-life lyrics in his songwriting and his vocal nuances remind the listener of country masters like Jones, Haggard, Twitty and Strait.
In 1999, Sony Music's revitalized imprint Monument Records won the honour of taking Gil’s music to the masses. The resulting body of work, aptly titled Famous First Words, defines Gil Grand musically, as well as an insightful songwriter and gifted vocalist. Produced by respected Nashville songwriter/producer Byron Hill, the album showcases Grand’s clear, strong tenor voice - which effortlessly conveys the emotional shadings of the 11 distinctive cuts.
Grand’s debut album immediately gained the attention and respect of the country music industry. He received three CCMA nominations including: Male Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year and Wrangler Rising Star. In 2000 Grand also received a Juno Award nomination for Country Male Artist of the Year.
Gil Grand’s latest album Burnin’ (2001) has been released on Toronto-based Spin Records, and is off to an impressive start. Two of the 11 tracks, There She Goes and Cry A Little are established radio hits. The latter reached #8 on the BDS chart. Both videos have received the #2 spot on the CMT Chevy Top 20 countdown.
Jason Barry produced this CD, with the exception of a few tracks produced by Rick Hutt. “Jason is a talented musician, singer/songwriter and now record producer. I am overjoyed with the end result of the new CD. I believe it makes a big difference when the producer and the artist are on the same page stylistically, as well as sharing a real passion for country music.”
“My favorite song on the new CD is Any Minute Now. I’ve got a craze for jazz and crooners. This song has a little of that mixed with a little Gil Grand. The result is fun and unique.”
When asked about the best part of his career, Gil responds, “Once the songs have been written and recorded, I get a real feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction from watching my fans react to the new music. That’s my favorite moment. This is the best job in the world!”
