O The Deep Love Of Jesus
O the deep, deep love
of Jesus
Vast, unmeasured,
boundless, free!
Rolling as a mighty
ocean
In its fullness over me,
Underneath me, all
around me,
Is the current of Thy
love;
Leading onward, leading
homeward
To my glorious rest
above.
O the deep, deep of
love of Jesus,
Spread His praise from
shore to shore!
How He loved, ever
loveth,
Changeth never,
nevermore,
How He watches o’er His
loved ones,
Died to call them all
His own;
How for them He
intercedeth,
Watcheth o’er them from
the throne.
O the deep, deep love
of Jesus,
Love of every love the
best;
‘Tis an ocean vast of
blessing,
‘Tis a haven sweet of
rest,
O the deep, deep love
of Jesus,
‘Tis a heaven’ of
heav’ns to me;
And it lifts me up to
glory,
For it lifts me up to
Thee.

How deep is the love of Jesus? This hymn tries to express something of
its magnitude. It is an ocean and
more. It is a “heaven of heavens.” But what does that mean? How does knowing this deep, deep love
effect the way we live each day?
Perhaps most important, it reassures us. When the apostle Paul says that nothing
can separate us form the love of Christ, we know that even our own sin will
not stop Jesus from loving us. He
continually offers His loving forgiveness. Christ’s love also motivates us. “Spread His praise from shore to shore!” The deep, deep love of Jesus is so
great, we just have to tell someone!
This “love of every love the best” makes Christ the highest priority
in our lives, All other longings
fallby the wayside as we bask and bathe in the vast ocean of Jesus’ love
for us.
And I pray that Christ
will be more and more at home in your hearts, living within you as you
trust in Him. May your roots go
down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love; and may you be able to
feel and understand, as all God’s children should, how long, how wide, how
deep, and how high His love really is; and to experience this love for
yourselves, though it is so great that you will never se the end of it or
fully know or understand it. And so
at last you will be filled up with God Himself. Ephesians 3: 17 – 19
