A Lithuanian Picnic

This was a fun afternoon full of some good old Lithuanian Traditions. I was invited to go to a Picnic with Monique, Diane, Mikael, and two teachers from their Practical Placement Class.
This class is one in which the three of them go to observe 1st and 2nd grade Lithuanian classes in order to see partly how the Lithuanian Education System works. Through this semester, MoDi and Mikael are to observe two different schools. They finished their studies at the first one, and this picnic was a partial celebration of a job well done.
So, now that you know what Practical Placement is and why we had a picnic, let's talk about the picnic itself. The two teachers, Saulius and Rasa brought us along with their son Paulius. We met up with many of their friends in a Forest area near Siauliai. After finding some wood and touring some of the sites in this forest, we started a fire and the cooking began.
I would never have guessed, but there was so much food that everyone was happily filled to the brim with plenty of food to spare. If I ate another bite of food, I would have exploded. It was all really tasty food too.
Time went by so fast. We were there for five hours, but I would have sworn that it was only 2 hours.
During this time, I played some soccer (football) and volleyball with Paulius and Monique. Later in the afternoon, Paulius and his friend accidently kicked the soccerball into the nearby creek (small river). His friend rolled up his pants and went to get it. He was inches away from reaching the ball when suddenly he stepped into a deeper part of the water and almost completely submerged. He was drenched in water... poor guy.
We found some frogs... or I should say Monique found some frogs. She was absolutely terrified. She hates frogs. I tried to take a picture, but it didn't turn out the best. We also found giant ant hills. These were the biggest hills I've ever seen. They came up past my knees and had as many ants as there are stars in the sky on a clear night outside the city. It was amazing. I also took pictures of this. They came out okay.
It is tradition that the first time you go on a picnic in the year, you must stand on your head in order to have a good year that year.
So, that's about it for our trip to the forest. It was a fun and relaxing time. Thank you Saulius and Rasa.
