Cliff Burton
Cliff Burton started playing bass for Metallica after they saw him onstage with "Tramua". He was one of the first bass players to use distortion and wah in his very unique sound. He helped write songs on Metallica's first three albums "Kill 'Em All", "Ride The Lightning" and "Master of Puppets". He helped Metallica with alot of writing, for he was extremely good with musical theory (clearly displayed in many pieces such as "Orion" and "Anestasia (Pulling Teeth)") as he learned it through his piano lessons as a child. He died on September 27 1986, when Metallica's Tour Bus crashed after skidding on black ice. We will always Remember Cliff for his hard lead riffs, his great understanding of music, and his attitude on the world and music. If you question his talent it is clearly displayed in his bass solo on "Kill 'Em All", "Anestasia (Pulling Teeth)". |
Les Claypool
Les Claypool is the most technical bass player in the world. He has nailed every technique in the book, slapping, popiong, tapping, anything you can imagine this guy can do on the five string. He displays huge lead bass talent and has some of the most fast, technical bass solos known to players everywhere. If you can get your hands on the live "Tommy The Cat" bass solo you will most likely crap your pants. |
Steve Harris
Steve Harris is one of the fastest bass players today. He played with Iron Maiden and was one of the top writers for Maiden. He went form extremely fast bass (as displayed in songs like "Aces High"), to extremely technical bass,(as displayed in songs like "The Trooper"). He was an extremely huge influence on the world of Metal bass. |
Flea
Flea is one of the best slap bass players there is. He has really technical fast lead bass lines and some crazy live solos. He is also very good wit musical theory as you may notice almost all RHCP songs are in key with the bass and guitar. Hell of a slapper! |
Geddy Lee
Not many people like this guys voice, but I'd like to see you play bass and keybords as well as this guy while you sing. Then you can say something about his talent. He plays really technical bass lines like "YYZ" and "2112". He aquired his talent from playing in a Led Zeppelin tribute band with his buddys from rush. He kept up With JPJ and is a hell of a bass player for it. |
