1) "VARIETY GIRL" - 93m/B&W
Mary Hatcher, Olga San Juan,
DeForest Kelley and William Demerest.
From late 1946 and into
January 1947, Spike Jones and his City Slickers were involved with
the filming of
this Paramount movie.
This is certainly worth
locating for a couple of reasons. One is to see DeForest Kelley in an
early pre-Trek role.
The other is to watch the City Slickers perform
"I Hear Your Heart Calling Mine" with Mary Hatcher.
Mickey Katz
glugs and mugs and plays a mean clarinet, which produces a forceful
stream of water at one point!
He gets to soak the band, and
receives a tubaful of water over his head for his efforts.
The
proceedings end with a giant snowball fight!
2) SPIKE JONES' HOME MOVIES - currently in the hands of a private
collector (not me!)
Mickey Katz reportedly appears in at least one,
taken of someone's birthday.
3)"THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE" 1967 (G) 138m/C Julie Andrews, Carol Channing, Mary Tyler Moore, John Gavin, Beatrice Lillie, James Fox, Noriyuki "Pat" Morita D George Roy Hill M Elmer Bernstein Academy Awards '67: Best Original Score Mickey Katz and Orchestra are seen and heard during "The Jewish Wedding Song."
Mickey Katz appeared with Grace Katz and Joel Grey on the Mike Douglas Show, during the 1970s. I remember seeing this, and Mickey Katz did not perform; Joel Grey was the co- host that particular week, and he simply brought his parents onto the program.
