Regine
Velasquez: Kind Lady

REGINE Velasquez is one generous soul. She helps other artists
realize their dreams to record their own album by producing it
herself. It's either that or she shares her blessings to people she
has worked with or with complete strangers.
It was the songbird who produced Gabby Eigenmann's first album. The
next lucky recording artist will be Zebedee Zuniga, a guest singer
in Regine's soundtrack album for her upcoming film Pangarap Ko ang
Ibigin Ka.
The soundtrack album features the works of Ogie Alcasid who penned
the title track. Their last collaboration was for the song "Hanggang
Ngayon" - the theme song of her movie with Richard Gomez.
Unselfish that she is, Regine allowed herself to be joined by other
artists in the album including the Tribe of Levi and Christopher de
Leon who joins her in singing "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," an old
favorite popularized by Frankie Valli and The Lettermen. Boyet,
unknown to many, is a competent singer himself who performs with
actor-friends in gigs abroad. Even the staff and crew at Viva Films'
production attest to Regine's kindness. They said during the last
day of shooting for Pangarap Ko ang Ibigin Ka, the star held a
raffle for the production crew. Prizes were various appliances worth
a total of P200,000!
Regine was also one of the first to distribute canned goods for the
victims of a strong typhoon that lashed through the country a few
years ago. She won't mention the amount she spent on the goods but
my mole says she shelled out at least P100,000.
In June, Regine will be doing a fund-raising show for the completion
of Hinundayan Auditorium in Southern Leyte. She's spent P300,000
grand for the initial construction and has pledged a million more
for its completion. The project is special to her heart as it's the
place where her mom grew up.
How did we know all these? Well, while everyone was busy
interviewing Regine, we cornered her father Mang Gerry and subjected
him to a grilling, complete with torture (just kidding).
