It all began during the Fall Semester of 2001, when a bunch of freshmen girls, who all resided in Nixon Hall, gathered informally to sing a cappella. These girls were inspired by the fact that Fredonia had two male a cappella groups, but not a single female nor mixed group. Wanting to give female Fredonia students a chance to sing a cappella, Out of the Blue was formed. Sadly, this group (comprised of possibly 8 to 10 girls) "rehearsed" twice throughout that semester and failed to make the all female a cappella group become a reality. Later, during the Spring semester of 2002, Betsy, former alto of Out of the Blue, thought it'd be a great idea to seek approval from the Student Association and really get a group off the ground for the following year. Enlisting the help of Melissa, another former OOTB member, Betsy set off on the lengthy process to become an acknowledged group on the Fredonia campus. She and Melissa went to countless meetings and their efforts were finally rewarded -- a female a cappella group was to be officially recognized as a student organization, beginning in the Fall of 2002. They then asked Marissa, their RA at the time, to act as treasurer on the executive board.
The following fall arrived and the audition process began. Approximately 100 girls auditioned in front of Betsy, Melissa, and Marissa and a group of 17 women was formed. The first two months proved to be rocky, losing four members, however the official debuts during the Holiday Season proved to be one success after another. Gigs for 2002 included singing at the Newman Center, Cranston Dining Hall, several dorms, and the Williams Center during the Annual Hanging of the Greens.
During the Spring of 03, we held another audition, this one being much smaller. After those auditions, we added two new members, bringing the group up to 15 girls. That's when the real fun began! Some Like It Hot sang at Fredonia's annual Superdance plus hosted a Debut Concert, which was held in the campus coffee house. We were also fortunate enough to record a small budget CD!!
