Shadows (Dave Rose) Dave Rose and His Orchestra, Bluebird B-5708-A. Chicago. Composed and arranged by Rose‹highly advanced for the time, it wasn't released until 1935 and must have sold poorly, given the scarcity of copies today.
Tea For Two (from No No Nanette) (Irving Caesar-Vincent Youmans) Tom Berwick and His Orchestra (listed under "Dick Robertson and His Orchestra," it is most probably a phantom band led by Tony Pastor. A previous title issued on Victor 24719, Missouri Misery, from the same session, has an uncredited vocal by Pastor. The late Neal McCaffrey said that Pastor led a band in late 1934, and this is mostl likely an uncredited session of that band). Bluebird B-5631 (listed in Rust as "rejected"), New York, August 22, 1934. FOOTNOTE: This has the earmarks of an Artie Shaw arrangement, to my ears; it's very advanced for the time. The clarinet solos are not by Shaw, but I feel quite certain that the tenor sax solo IS by Shaw!
Au Revoir L'Amour (Good-bye to Love) (from M-G-M film Folies Bergere) (Jack Meskill-Jack Stern) Goerge Hall and His Hotel Taft Orchestra, vocal by Sonny Schuyler. Bluebird B-5802-A, New York, December 19, 1934.
