"Friendly Five Footnotes"
*Freddie Rich & His Orchestra-1932*
The material here is from the radio program Fred's Friendly Five presented by the Jarman Shoe Company of Nashville, TN. There are twenty-six programs having four titles each, and they were scheduled from Sept., 1931 to May, 1932. The recordings were completed
in two sessions in the fall of 1931. The two sessions were intermixed to fit the format and timing of these programs, with the voices of David Ross, the CBS announcer and Casey Jones' commentary on aviation, added. (Note the hint of trouble with Japan at this early date.)

First session: Bob Effros, Manny Klein (t), Charlie Butterfield and another (tb), Tony Parenti and three unknown (reeds), Joe Venuti, Lew Conrad and three unknown (vn),
Irving Brodsky (p, ar), Freddie Rich (dir, ar, 2nd p), Eddie Lang (g), unknown (bj), Hank
Sterns (sb), George Green (d, xy, cel), unknown (v).

Second Session: 2 unknowns replace Effros and Klein, Walter Gross replaces Brodsky, Elmer Feldkamp (al, cl, v) replaces unknown reed.

Collectors have guessed Bunny Berigan, Tommy Dorsey, Jerry Colonna, and Jimmy Dorsey as also probably being in the ranks. One vocalist may be Paul Smalle.
