THE JOHNNY GREEN COLLECTION
VOLUME ONE: BRITISH RECORDINGS, 1933-1934

Statement of Purpose: Our intention with this part of the series is to include all of Johnny Green's commercially recorded performances at least up to the war-time period. We are including the Ethel Merman accompaniments and Deanna Durbin, mainly because there are only a few of those, but we're omitting the accompaniments for Fred Astaire and Danny Kaye, because they're so numerous and because they're commonly available on many standard commercial CDs. (However, we are including several Green-Astaire rarities, not available anywhere, as bonus items.) Volume One starts with the British sessions, even though there are a few earlier items; also, there wasn't room for the last of the London titles (What Now?), so this has been placed in chronological sequence as track five of volume two. This series comes from the collections of Roger Sturtevant and Peter Mintun, with several items from the personal holdings of John W. Green (1908-1989) himself.

Note: Peter Mintun dates the following eight transcription selections from "Early 1934," so we're going to include them here with the first Brunswick date. Unfortunately, on Peter's copy of the disc, the volume of the music is low and that of the very-chewy surface noise is high - but we've never heard of anyone else having this material! All titles are instrumental.
