Just wanted to let you know that I have just about finished the Roger Wolfe
Kahn project. Five CD's, comprising the complete Victors, Brunswicks and
Columbias, including some rare alternates.
John Leifert is coming over tomorrow with the Deaville Dozen (RWK band)
record containing "Pep" and "Dreaming of Tomorrow." The first one is on the
RWK Jazz Oracle CD, but I don't have the second one. He's also bringing a
couple of RWK broadcasts, while I will use to fill up the last disc. He
claims that Mike Sambach had an alternate of "Pep," but no one has been able
to locate it.
Special thanks to Mr. Leifert, as well as to Peter Doyle and especially to
the eminent Dan Morgenstern for supplying all the missing titles. I should
also acknowledge Vince Fitzpatrick, who has been seaching for his copy of
"Russian Lullaby" for about a month now. Good luck, Vince!
My band played a job in Morristown, NJ on Monday night, and at the end of the
concert, the great John E. Miller put nine CDs in my hands, including five
CDs comprising the complete Benson Orchestra of Chicago! Only one title
missing--"Tears of Happiness" from Victor 19387. Anyone out there have it?-----

Subject: Dances with Wolfe
Well, after many months of slaving over a hot platter, it's done.
The great, illustrious, prolific, talented wonderboy, that scrawny
child prodigy, son of millionaire Otto Kahn, born with a silver
stylus in his mouth in Morristown, New Jersey, has finally gotten his
due, forty years after his death.
I sent the package off to Uncle Wilsci today--Five 80-minute CDs,
comprising his entire recorded output, for Victor, Harmony,
Brunswick, and Columbia, as well as ultra-rare broadcasts,
transcriptions, and soundtracks from Vitaphone and Movietone shorts.
I would once again like to acknowledge the invaluable assistance of
John Leifert, Peter Doyle, Vince Fitzpatrick, Joe Lauro, Peter
Mintun, and Dan Morgenstern, for contributing rare material,
alternate takes, film footage, and upgrades. I could not have
completed this massive project without their help.
Alas, after extensive research, I could not determine the names of
two titles, one from the Movietone short, and one from the 1936
Vitaphone short. I played them for Mssrs. Leifert, Giordano, and the
eminent Ron Hutchinson, but no one could identify them. I thank
these authorities for their valiant efforts, and I appeal to all of
you out there in the land of toast to fill in the blanks on the track
sheets. Please respond to me if you have any answers.
Which reminds me, in regards to track info, don't settle for an
internet download when you make your requests to the great
toastmaster. I have painstakingly prepared five beautiful tracks
sheets, neatly set up to to accompany two double jewel cases and a
single one (sold separately, of course), and I have included 12
copies in today's shipment, available to the first dozen lucky
emailers.
Please make your orders directly to Wilsci, as it is he who is
blessed with the holy high-speed copier, and enjoy the music of the
greatest Kahn artist of them all!!!
Following this message is a complete listing of what's in store and
not in stores. Proceed, IF YOU DARE.
