Hi Will,
Here's my Seger
Ellis stack.
If this becomes a
TONY project, I'm sure other contributors will be able
to improve on some of these. On #04 the sound level of the original 78
is about 5 DB below the usual; fortunately my copy is pretty clean. #09
may sound like it skips at the end, but it does not. #22 was severely abused
by a juke box; the last chorus hardly qualifies as music, but I included it
for completeness. The label makes no reference to the "Choirs of
Brass"
listed in Rust.
OKeh designed a special silver label for Ellis with a thumbnail photo. On
#13-14 it appears with the notation "Friends, I now record exclusively for
OKeh Records. Cordially, [signed] Seger Ellis." An unusual type face
is used for the title and composer credits. On #15-16 and #18-19 the
basic design is similar, but the simple legend "Exclusive Artist"
replaces
the cordial note, the photo is a little different, and standard Columbia-OKeh
typography is used for the credits (in near-microscopic type on #15-16).
Lang appears to be
present on most of the OKehs, and not present on
the others. #20-21 is open to conjecture.
