Jam Master Jay's Mother Says 'It Was Jay's Time'

Jam Master Jay

The Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation held their yearly "B.I.G. Night Out" with this year honoring the mothers of rappers and vocalists who lost their son or daughter to violence or health.

"Over the years, they've encountered one of the worst tragedies a mother can ever face, and I'm hoping not to put closure to their loss but just to share a little warmth with them," Voletta Wallace, founder of the CWMF, told the Associated Press."It is our way of saying, 'Keep your head up.' It's the foundation's way just to let these parents know that we love them."

Some of the mothers honored at Tuesday's event included Afeni Shakur (mother of Tupac Shakur), Diane Haughton (mother of Aaliyah), Wanda Lopes (mother of Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes), Gilda Terry (mother of Big L), Gail Tirado (mother of Big Pun), Herminia Rogers (mother of Freaky Tah) and Connie Mizell (mother of Jam Master Jay).

Connie Mizell, mother of Jam Master Jay, says that she's been fine since her son's death.

"I'm not having any problems coping; I'm a firm believer in Jesus Christ. I have been sad that he will never call me again, but I cannot say that it has deterred my life," she told the Associated Press. "I'm a firm believer that it was Jay's time."

The film tells the story of his life, but unlike the slew of previous movies about Pac, the filmmakers let the microphone king narrate his own story through interviews that were conducted with the poetic rap prophet by various media outlets.

MTV Films and AMARU Entertainment's "Tupac: Resurrection," directed by Lauren Lazin, will be previewed at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22, and is scheduled for theatrical release in the fall of 2003.

Gunmen Open Fire On Violator Management Offices

NEW YORK — On Thursday evening, assailants fired shots at the Manhattan offices of Violator Management, which oversees the careers of hip-hop artists such as Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, Mobb Deep and 50 Cent. There were no injuries.

Police would not comment on their investigation, but sources said an unknown number of shooters entered the office building in Manhattan's Chelsea district around 7 p.m., rode the elevator to the 11th floor and shot up the metal and glass security doors of the management agency. The shooters then fled.

The reception area directly behind the doors was empty at the time of the shooting, but a number of employees, including Violator founder and CEO Chris Lighty, were present inside their offices. It's not known whether security cameras captured the incident.
