Notes may be bent on chromatic harmonicas with sustain, control, and a pitch range that often exceeds that available on diatonic harmonicas.
For instance, D nin notes above Middle C on a C diatonic (hole 4) will bend only one semitone. But the same note on a standard chromatic harmonica will bend three semitones and possibly more depending on the adjustment of the reeds and the skill of the player.
Click here to listen. This was recorded using a Hohner Super 64 chromatic. The note starts at the natural pitch of D and is then bent down three semitones to B, then raised again to D. This is done in one continuous breath that lasts slightly less than 17 seconds.
