Leroux's Novel |
Webber's Musical |
Christine's father is a dead violinist who used to tell stories to Raoul and Christine when they were children.
Christine and her father were poor, living on the chairty of an older couple after years of wandering.
Christine's father was a famed musician.
Christine is an orphan trying to make her way in the world, working at the Opera House in Paris. She was very close to her father and misses him very much after his death.
Christine's mother died when she was young, but she and her father were in time taken in by a kindly older couple who cared for Christine even after her father passed away.
After her father's death, Christine went to the Opera House to train for a (pressumably) life-long career there.
Christine and Raoul were childhood 'sweethearts', seperated before adulthood.
The Mask.
Leroux's Phantom generally wears a black mask that hides his entire face.
Webber's Phantom generally wears a white mask that covers only half his face at a time, either the upper half or one full side.
Don Juan Triumphant.
Don Juan Triumphant is Erik's (The Phantom's) masterpiece. Perhaps, like the Opera House itself, or even more so, it was as close to being his life's work as anything. Or perhaps it simply gave him a sense of purpose. He works on it for days at a time without pause and even Christine hears very little of it. It is to go with him to his final rest in his coffin-bed.
Don Juan Triumphant is the Phantom's opera about the experienced, rich Don Juan's seduction of an innocent maid. It is also his means for abducting Christine the second time.
