Viscount/Vicomte Raoul de Chagny Raoul is the youngest of four children. It was at his birth that his mother passed away. He was raised partly by an elderly aunt in Brest, from whom he inherited his love for the sea. By the age of twenty-one, Raoul had sailed around the world. Now, only a six-month furlough, Raoul has been appointed as a member of a rescue expedition to the Arctic Circle. He is shy as well as candid and charming. Though he is roughly twenty-one-years old, he looks to be around eighteen. He has small, fair mustache, blue eyes, and a complexion considered to be like a girl’s. During a walk with his governess, young Raoul happened upon young Christine and her father. When Christine’s scarf blew away and into the sea, he ran after it-fully dressed. Raoul is both jealous and rash, especially when it comes to Christine. “I am the little boy who went into the sea to rescue your scarf.” |
