- Dec. 11, 2004 - Dimebag's Slaying Hangs Over Dallas Show

According to The Star Telegram, the annual Christmas concert thrown by the Dallas, Texas radio station KDGE 102.1 FM "The Edge" is usually a goofy, festive affair. But this year's event Friday night (Dec. 10) at Nokia Live at Grand Prairie was two days after "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, the guitarist for DAMAGEPLAN and lifelong Metroplex resident, was fatally shot while performing at a Columbus, Ohio, nightclub.

The legacy of his death could be seen at the gate, where the audience at the sold-out show got airport-style metal-detection screening.

In between performances by KORN, HOOBASTANK, CHEVELLE, SKINDRED and INSTRUCTION, video screens next to the stage showed photos of Dime playing guitar.

Fans wore T-shirts for DAMAGEPLAN and PANTERA, some with hand-written Dimebag homages, as well as for DROWNING POOL (whose singer Dave Williams died in 2002 and with whom Dime and his brother, Vinnie Paul, were close).
