Abhorrence were one of the very first death metal bands in Finland and formed officially in about 1989 but prior to that the band members had been playing together under two or three other different names. In early February 1990 they recorded their first demo "Vulgar Necrolatry" which had three songs on it. This year they also did one gig in Norway and spent the night at Mayhem's house. They broke up before their debut 7" EP was released by the American cult label Seraphic Decay Records, run by Stephen O'Bannon who ripped the band off. The EP was produced by Stratovarius' own Timo Tolkki. Just after they broke up they were offered a recording deal by Relapse Records. They played live gigs with many different bands like Funebre, Xysma, Disgrace, Cadaver, Demigod, Anditode and Stratovarius. The guitarist went on to form Amorphis together with members from Violent Solution and Nuxvomica.
