Dark Tranquillity was formed in December 1989 and has since then become one of the biggest melodic death metal bands in the world. They were one of the pioneers to creat what would later be know as the "Gothenburg sound", a style of death metal with very strong melodies and folk music influences. In early 1999 they signed with perhaps the No1 metal label in the world namely Century Media, previously having worked with the Finnish Spinefarm and the French Osmose. Their guitarist Niklas Sundin is also a very skilled artist, having designed cover artwork for many artists like ...And Oceans, Hypocrite and others. He also writes the lyrics for In Flames.
