It was in 1993 that Shagrath and Silenoz, later joined by Tjodalv, started the entity we now know as DIMMU BORGIR. Heavily influenced by bands such as DARKTHRONE and BATHORY the band started working on material, and joined by Brynjard Tristan the band recorded their first cd, "For All Tid". But something was not perfect, and on the subsequent recording "Stormblast", Tjodalv moved to drums and Shagrath took over the guitar. That second album was already quite a shock in the Metal world, with much melody and atmosphere upon the heavy song structures. But the biggest chance for tha band came afterwards. Not only did the band decided to write english lyrics instead of the norwegian they had used before, but the switching of Shagrath to the vocals changed the band immensely. This resulted in a musical work that stands as one of the greatest ever to be released in Black Metal: "Enthrone Darkness Triumphant". This album, released on major label Nuclear Blast, took the world by storm, and in the following years the band not only reinforced their line-up, but also steadily grew to one of the biggest bands in Metal existence. Albums like "Godless Savage Garden", "Spiritual Black Dimensions" and "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia" have captured legions of the Metal world... and with damn good reason. DIMMU BORGIR stands as one of the most influential melodic Black Metal bands to exist. This status was reconfirmed with their new album, "Death Cult Armageddon". Taking Black Metal to new levels, featuring an immense orchestra but remaining true to their roots, DIMMU BORGIR show they are every bit of the band they promised to be after "Stormblast".
