The End´s story begins in another band, EUCHARIST where Matti Almsenius joined in the spring of 1994. Eucharist which at that time were Marcus Johnsson (guitars, vocals), Daniel Erlandsson (drums) and Tobias Gustafsson (bass) had reunited since the breakup after their debut-CD "A Velvet Creation".

In summer 1994 they recorded the tracks "Wounded And Alone" and "The Predictable End" for the compilation album W.A.R.

Compilation-Volume One ("Wounded And Alone" also appeared on the Japanese W.A.R. compilation "Battle Of Pride"). After the recordings the group decided to part ways. Marcus Johnsson decided to go more for the electronic side of music), Daniel Erlandsson and Tobias Gustafsson started to write song together (Daniel Erlandsson also made several recordings with other band as well, such as IN FLAMES) and Matti Almsenius re-joined with his old band REVENGIA.

After a few months Daniel and Tobias contacted Matti again and asked if he was interested in a new project, not sounding the way as EUCHARIST and he did. In November they started to check out some song Daniel and Tobias written and formed the band END. To get some more bandvibe over the name they added THE. Later on they discovered that there were other bands called , but they just added a* between the words in the logo hoping that this would solve the problem…

In December their first demo were ready. It was recorded in their rehearsal studio on an 8-track recording machine, but they were pretty pleased at the time how it ended up.

In April 1995 they went in to record their second demo which was paid by money from their debut-gig. This time they used an outside recording studio that was located on the loft at a barn. continued to record demos and playing gigs.

In November they recorded a three song demo in one week and they were pleased enough to decide to make a CD out of it. They approached Swedish distribution company "House Of Kicks" with the idea and they agreed to distribute but only if they had more material on the CD. So in January 1996 they went in and recorded the songs "Legend" and "Picture" in two days. Working this fast was pretty standard for both in the studio and writing material. After that there were more gigs and trying to promote the record.

There were no success and hardly any response on the record. This was of course a major disappointment for the group. In July 1996 they also lost the rehearsal studio. It took some time to find a new one but it wasn´t really the same as before the record. Daniel had started to record the first ARCH ENEMY record and soon thereafter started to gig with them to promote the album. Matti was playing with a coverband called ACE OF SPADES and Tobias started to jam with a new band that should be UNBORN after a while.

Finally in January 1997 the band entered the studio for the last time. This time for two weeks. It was not the most inspired that been put on tape, but the songs were still strong.

Shortly thereafter they quit. Daniel Erlandsson had gotten an offer from W.A.R. records to record another EUCHARIST record with Marcus Johnsson. Tobias Gustafsson and Matti Almsenius started to jam with drummer Niclas Jerberg and that turned later out to be the band CROAM.
