Hordes started up in a town called Hammerfest in Norway under the name Depths of Catharsis around the fall of 2000. Our lineup at the time was: Disharmony - Drums, InVisus - Vocals, Dan Olaisen - Guitar and Ernst Harald Pedersen - Bass. We started out playing songs a friend, Christian Bugge Hansen, made on his computer with fasttracker 2.01. He presented them to us and asked for our opinion, and since we thought the riffs and the rhythm were pretty cool, we decided to form a band with that as our demo. After some time Christian Bugge stopped writing our songs and started giving us constructive criticism on our music to improve its quality. The song Chaotic Rebirth is based on the very first song he made for us on his computer.

Sometime during the winter of 2001 both Ernst and Dan quit the band and were replaced by Vociferor on guitar and Confector on bass. We also changed our name from Depths of Catharsis to Hordes around that time. This was done both for practical reasons and because our music had changed and we felt the name Depths of Catharsis no longer fit us. The story behind the name Hordes begun as our vocalist InVisus asked Lex Icon of The Kovenant about band names during one of his visits to Hammerfest. Lex had had some plans of starting a band called Hordes but as he had never got around to doing that, he offered the name to us. And on that day, Hordes started its mighty struggle against christianity.

As time has passed, Hordes has developed in playing and writing music. We use a lot of time for making original music with good lyrics, and do not want to follow trends blindly. Currently we are occupied with making our new demo and a remake of the old one. The biggest inspiration for our music comes from the comments we get from those who have listened to our music or seen us perform live. One of our biggest goals is spreading our music to as many people as we can and playing live for an audience that appreciates it! Black Metal rebellion!
