King Diamond was formed in 1986, a year after the breakup of the legendary Mercyful Fate by the ex-members King Diamond, Michael Denner and Timi Hansen. The first line-up also consisted of two ex-Geisha members namely Floyd Konstantin and Mikkey Dee. Floyd was not good enough for the band though so on the first day of recording he was replaced by EF Band's guitar player Andy La Rocque. Just like Mercyful Fate, King Diamond has had to go through many line-up changes over the years. For some reason the band used a drum machine for the recording of "The Eye" although Snowy Shaw helped compose the music and was present in the studio at the time. At this time the former members Blakk and Patino were fired because of drug problems and lack of enthusiasm. The band also ran into conflict with their label Roadrunner Records. Darrin Anthony had to leave the band after a serious car accident before the recording of the "Voodoo" album, released in February 1998. In April and May 1998 King Diamond toured through Canada and the US. On tour Herb Simonsen was replaced by Glen Drover because of some personal problems and later he completely left the band with Glen as the new member.
