LAID IN ASHES was formed in 1999 in Bottrop / Germany. The band then existed of Ingo (guit, voc), Jochen (b, voc.), Markus (dr) & Georg (guit).
At the beginning of 2000 the first demo was recorded in the Mikado Studio in Gladbeck. After the release of 'Laid in Ashes' the band played shows around their home town, and received positive critics from several magazines. Later in the year Georg left the band due to musical differences, and was replaced by Stefan, who provided the band with an extra musical boost.
In early 2001 the second demo 'This Means War!' was recorded, on which the band show an even more cimpromiseless side than on their previous recording. Again the cd received excellent reviews. Later on during the year the band decided to get a vocalist, so that Jochen and Ingo could focus on their instrument on stage. With Fabian the band found the perfect person to fill in this role.
With this line-up the band entered the studio in Autumn 2002 to record the debut record 'Freakshow 666'. The new recordings were a big leap forwards from their previous demo, both production-wise as well as in songwriting. In April 2003 the record became available, but Stefan left the band in Summer 2003. He was eventually replaced by Steve (ex-Strider).
