The band was formed in early 1995 in the Ridley Township area of Delaware County. Lead singer/lead guitarist Kevin McClintock was in one band and drummer Brian Deal and rhythm guitarist Dan Loughery were in another band. Both bands shared the same studio space and played Death Metal. Since both bands were not working out these three musicians decided to form their own band and combine their music. After months of extensive practicing and hours of dedication, the band created four songs that displayed the technical and creative aspects of these three individuals. By June of 1995, the band was ready to record a demo and entitled themselves 'ETHEREAL'. They asked Monty Mukerji to play bass guitar for the band and play on the demo. The demo was recorded and mixed in two days and included the songs 'Dead Forever', 'Throne of Abolishment', 'Eternal Darkness', and 'Life... Without Life'.

After the band recorded the demo is when the band fell apart. For nearly two years, the band broke-up, reformed, and had different line-ups. Finally in August 1997, the band reconciled and decided to reform the original line-up. The band's initial name was 'BRUTALOGY' but after playing a couple of shows, the band decided to change their name to 'POLTERCHRIST'.

By January 1998, the band was gaining recognition in the local club scene. But the band was having trouble with guitarist Dan Loughery who was losing interest in the band. That's when they came across guitar player Spencer Murphy (ex-Goreaphobia). Due to Spencer's interest in the band, Dan was asked to leave.

In January 1999, the band decided to record a four song demo at Studio Crash in Philadelphia. The CD was recorded, mixed, and mastered by September 1999. But before the CD was complete, Spencer decided to leave the band. The band did not perform any shows and decided to work on new material until they found a replacement.

In January of the new millenium, the band came across guitarist Rich Gulzynsky. Polterchrist are now playing shows again and their debut CD entitled 'The Unity of Blackened Souls' has finally been released.

In August of 2000, Rich Gulzynksy is no longer in the band. The band has decided to become a power trio. After going through numerous lineup changes, Polterchrist are now a solid unit and are creating their best material ever.

In August of 2001, Polterchrist has decided to go back to having dual attacking guitarists ! With the addition of Billy Frederick, we have re-captured the very essence of our music. Combining harmonies, dynamics, and a wall of rythm is what we pride ourselves on, upon making the most brutal gut-wrenching sonic torment we can create ! This will be evident in the coming months as we unleash the fury at our upcoming gigs. Be afraid. Be very afraid! \m/

Polterchrist was signed to Season of Mist records in December of 2003. Debut full length entitled 'Engulfed by the Swarm' to be released worldwide Sept. 7th 2004.
