Recap
of meeting on Feb 13, 2006
We've had so much going on the past few weeks - this group is on a roll! On Monday, February 13th, we had about 20 folks at the Moonlight and had surprise speakers, Larry and Amy McKeehan. Larry and Amy have just moved back from Nashville for family reasons and bring a wealth of knowledge about the music industry. They answered some earnest questions about the business end of things, and the relative importance of agents, pluggers, and persistence. The group then critiqued four or five songs and a couple of folks stayed and signed up for the Open Mic that followed the meeting. That, my friends, is what it's all about! Then, on Saturday the 18th, Marc-Alan Barnette rolled full-steam into Birmingham to do a special workshop for the group. We had a lively 4-hour workshop, with at least 20 in attendance (despite icy roads!). The feedback indicates that everyone learned a great deal from Marc's no-holds-barred approach - and I know everyone was entertained a good bit along the way. Marc-Alan put on a great show at the Moonlight that night, and then several group members had private appointments with him on Sunday the 19th. We will be working on other special events in the coming months! For now, mark your calendars for our next meeting: March 13, from 6:00-7:30 at the Moonlight - bring your troubled lyrics, stalled songs, and great ideas that you haven't figured out how to turn into a song. We're going to have a group trouble-shooting session! Please join us for our next meeting on March 13, 2006 at 6pm at the Moonlight Music Cafe, Birmingham's premier venue for songwriters. The Moonlight hosts an open mic at 8pm so any and all are encouraged to stay and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity and support our local musicians. Stay tuned as we hope to update this page with our progress as a new and expanding group, and as we highlight our members and their accomplishments along the way. Please, come and bring all your songwriting friends. The Birmingham Regional workshop is led by Donna Brooks. CLICK HERE for bio. |
