The Kid - 1921 (Not Rated)

Featuring:

Year of Release: 1945
Rated: Not Rated
Director: Charlie Chaplin
Approx. Running Time: 68 minutes
Format(s): DVD (Disc 5, Side B)
My Rating: 3 Stars (Out of 5)

From Back Cover:

Charlie Chaplin's first starring role in a feature film was also written and directed by the star himself and took a whole year to make. The Tramp (Chaplin) discovers an abandoned baby and eventually adopts it as his own. Years later, the mother has become famous and begins looking for her son. The Tramp and The Kid (Jackie Coogan) live in the tenements and manage to enjoy their poor but happy life together. Circumstances arise that bring the mother and our duo together for a touching finale.

My Comments:

In my limited exploration of silent cinema, I've watched several of Chaplin's films and overall I'm not a fan of his work. The Kid is the only exception to that. It's not funny (no Chaplin movie is), but it has a good emotional payoff and is worth watching. Probably more 3.5 stars than 3.
