When did you first get the idea to write Jellicle High?
Hmm... When did I? I can't remember exactly, but it must have been about... 2000 or so. I had been playing on a Jellicle High RPG with my friend, Meter, and I thought how this would make a really fun story. I started to write the into, and, lo and behold, an idea was born. Since then it's been growing, and it still is.
Where do you come up with your ideas for story lines?
Most of them, from real life. I took a lot of ideas from what I know of high school and from problems I know teenagers have, and incorporated them into the CATS characters, trying to best match a story line with their personalities. So, most of my ideas are from either my own experiences or from things I have seen happen. Some of it is made up, of course. Nothing I've written is entirely based on reality in my life.
How do you go about writing your stories?
I have several story lines planned out to the dot, like Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer. Some story lines I know how I want them to end, but I'm not sure how to get there, so I just write things into it, such as Mistoffelees and Victoria. Some story lines I have no idea what I'm doing with them, such as Exotica. Most of them, I have a general idea of what I want to say, and I just let the characters write through me. I don't believe it's me writing, but the personalities of the characters using me to write their stories. (Here comes the men in lab coats with a straightjacket...)
Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer have a very close relationship, but I can't help but think something is going to happen to one of them so my question is can you tell me what your plans are for the two? (Added July 1, 2002)
Well, not to give anything away of course, but your suspicions are correct. Something will happen to one of them, or perhaps both of them. You'll just have to wait and see. Their story gets a little more complex soon, but I sadly cannot reveal anything at this time. In the next chapter you might be able to guess because of what happens. Keep watching for more.
Did you base any personalities off of someone you know? (Added August 5, 2002)
Hmm, good question. Yes and no, I suppose. Jemima is based a little off of me, Alonzo off my boyfriend. Rum Tum Tugger is based off of all the hormone-crazed males at my school who only think with their "second brain". I have a few homosexual friends, both guys and girls, though none (as far as I know) in the same situations as Plato/Victor and Etcetera/Electra. But most of the personalities are just made up based off of how they act as characters either on stage or in the movie (which most of them are based off of). And a lot of them I just made up personalities that would make for good reading, such as Cassy being a major brat, but still having a soft side. I hope some of that made sense.
If you have any questions you'd like to ask me about myself (other than questions about my private information), my writing skills, or any of the characters, send them to me over email, and I will answer them on here as best I can, short of giving away any surprises. I love to answer questions, so please send them to me.
