On the Line: The Creation of a Chorus Line
by Robert Viarga, Baayork Lee and Thommie Walsh
Publisher unknown
Reviews
This book is a MUST for any "A Chorus Line" enthusiast. Viagas, Lee and Walsh, together with the rest of the original cast have made an insightful book which documents the life of this great musical. Filled with remembrances by the cast and with a good collection of photographs by several photographers their book is a treasure chest of facts and memories of Broadway's "Singular Sensation". It is nice to know that author Baayork Lee continues her association with the show after twenty five years, still directing companies of the show and now opening up a website dedicated to the show... I only hope that some day they will provide an updated version concluding with the gala final performance. -Anonymous
What They Did for Love: The Untold Story Behind The Making Of A Chorus Line

Broadway's longest-running show deserves spectacular commemoration, and here 'tis, 5 years after closing night but a full 20 after opening. Basically, this attractive, oblong book is
an organized, or nonscrappy, scrapbook. Stevens and George, Chorus Line superfans who each saw it more than 70 times, interviewed 125 participants in the show from throughout its run. Their text consists entirely of excerpts from those conversations, which they organize in 12 chapters, on topics ranging from production design and marketing to celebrating the
record-breaking performance and remembering director Michael Bennett. A last chapter consists of tables of raw data, including the week-by-week box office receipts, all the shows that Chorus Line outlived during its run, all the onstage performers of every role, all prizes won, etc. And, of course, the book's well and generously illustrated. -Ray Olson
A wonderful, must-have book for any fan of 'A Chorus Line.' Full to the brim of beautiful pictures of the cast and crew both on-stage and off, anecdotes and information about the show, this is well worth the money. It contains chapters on the Gala Performance, auditions, the creation of the show, all the different technical aspects (lighting, sound, production etc), the movie, the show's closing, and the trials that the show experienced during its record-breaking Broadway run. I highly recommend it. -Rowena

Ths book takes the reader behind the scenes revealing the creative process that shaped A Chorus Line, how it affected the lives of its participants and why it became the most popular musical of all time. It also talks about the career of Michael Bennett and tells for the first time the untold story of Bennetts' last unfinished musical "Scandal". -SunniestSunshine
One Singular Sensation: The Michael Bennett Story

This book contains the complete script and the lyrics to all the songs within the musical, including sections which are not on the OBC CD. Highlights for me were reading the "Alternatives" scene towards the end of the musical, the parts of the montage that aren't included on the CD and Paul and Vak's substansial monologues. Well presented and containing a small selection of black and white photographs, this book is worth the price.-Rowena
