John trained at the Royal Ballet, Bush Davis, and Doreen Birds schools. He then left the college which he was attending at age 17 to tour with the original UK production of CATS. He was playing the roles of Alonzo and the Rumpus Cat, and understudying the roles of Mistoffelees and the Rum Tum Tugger. After that he joined the London Company in the West End, and was playing the same roles but understudying The Rum Tum Tugger and Munkustrap instead of Misto. Recently John understudied the parts of The Rum Tum Tugger and Munkustrap in the Hamburg production of CATS.
