She was a young peasent girl. She lived by herself, for all of her family had died before she was thirteen-years-old. Now, as a maid of sixteen, she was on her own and providing for herself. But she was no “damsel in distress.” Far from it. She could do work as well as any man and her hands were proof. While small. they were strong and rough. Her father had been a master at the sword and had taught her ever since she was big enough to pick it up. Her will was strong and her temper hot. But she did not lack the qualities of a lady. She had been taught how to sew, spin, weave, embroader, and how to cook a meal fit for a king. She was very petite in stature with a tiny waist. She wore a wide hat to keep the sun off her skin when she worked outside, so her complexion was an ivory white. It seemed as though God had put rosebuds in her cheeks, for they were always a becoming pink. Her lips pursed into the shaped of a heart and were the color of ripe strawberries. Her curly auburn hair shone copper in the sunlight and framed her face to perfection. She always held her head high and proud. Every man in her village turned thier heads to her when she passed, but her heart belonged to another; a young stable boy, who wished to be a knight.
He was a young stable boy, maybe around twenty years of age. His hair was golden like the sun and his eyes were a pale and icy blue. He lived a hard, but good life and did what he could to support his seven brothers and sisters. He was well liked in the village and a trusted young man. He could read and write enough to be considered educated, although he only did so when it was nessicary or to impress a young lady. But the girl who had his heart he felt he would never win. He loved a young girl who lived on her own. But she seemed not to motice him and rarley looked his way. He wished to be a brave knight to win her heart and fight in her name. But, try as he might, he was clumsy with a sword and his love fought better then him. She had even beaten him in a dual as children and since that moment had had his heart.
