Pollicle Costume
Here is how Tigor made his pollicle costume. You can see his end result here. Thanks Tigor!!
Materials: stiff brown (or choice colour) cloth, large pieces of 3 different colours of cloth, large amounts of various coloured foam rubber (white mostly) in various sizes, hot glue gun and glue sticks, yarn,
Velcro (black and white), large pieces of cardboard, 6-10 large grommets (metal rings), two shoe laces, a leather hole punch, a large ball
Instructions:
- Take a piece of cardboard and cut it out into the shape of a 3-foot shoe sole. Lay it down.
- Place the white foam rubber (or whatever colour you plan on using for the bottom) over it and cut the pieces to fit as a shoe “sole”.
- Taking a glue gun, glue the pieces to the cardboard and then put more pieces over that in the form of shoe grips to make it look like one piece on the bottom of the shoe.
- When it cools, turn it over and take strips of cardboard and bend them around the base to make a 5-inch high ring around it and glue thick bars of foam rubber as braces from the cardboard strips to the cardboard
“sole”.
- Take your stiff, brown (or whatever colour you have) cloth and place it around the cardboard. Glue the base to the cardboard.
- Then cut the cloth until it has the curved slope of a shoe. There will be a seam at the front end of the cloth.
- Take the large piece of cloth and cover the hole with it, smoothing it out and gluing it over the edge of the brown cloth.
- With a 3-inch wide strip of foam rubber, wrap the seam where cloth meets cardboard sole and cover it all the way around.
- Take a leather hole-punch and punch 6-10 holes in the shoe (3-5 on each side) and place grommets around them.
- Glue two shoelaces together and string them through.
- Take a large block of foam rubber and glue it to the back of the shoe :(1) to give strength to the shoe, and (2) as a head brace so that it will stay balanced on my shoulders.
- Then take a thin, wavy piece of cardboard and glue a piece of brown cloth to both sides and cut it to the shape of the shoes “tongue”. Glue it to the inside just underneath the end with the extra cloth.
- Glue two small pieces of black Velcro to the sides of the shoe (1-inch pieces; 1 to each side), and 3 small pieces of Velcro (that matches the bottom foam “sole”) on the bottom of the shoe where you will want the ears and nose to go.
- Take a thick piece of foam rubber and cut them into 6-7-inch circles and cut holes in them to make them into buttons for eyes. Take some thick yarn and run it through the holes to look like they've been sewn on with Cat-sized thread and glued the other pieces of black Velcro to the backs of each.
- Make two gigantic neckties and knot them up at the ends. Glue white Velcro to each one, and then to a large ball, glue the third piece of Velcro. When it’s all dried, you will have your Pollicle head.
