Tails
Someone send me these directions. The link on these is http://members.home.net/caitrl/instructions.html (link no longer works). The owner of that page, please e-mail me so I can credit you.
- First you need a crochet hook, yarn in the colors you need, a shoelace, & some scissors.
- Braid a french braid (a 4 strand braid). The owner of these directions suggests using white(so you can color it), but *I* suggest using the color(s) you are using the most.Less time & you don't need to color.
- Cut a lot of yarn about 5 inches long.(Zoe:) I suggest you also throw in *some* yarn that is 6 inches long and 4 inches long.
- Insert the crochet hook in the braid so that at least one piece of yarn is on it.(Zoe:)If you don't have a crochet hook, that's ok. Tie the yarn *around* the braid. The non-crochet hook version may take you a while. It took me 2-3 days to put the yarn on the braid
- Loop one of the small pieces of the yaarn over the curved end of the hook. Pull the hook through the braid.
- Tie the yarn into a double knot(or a single,if you're really good at tieing tight knots), so that if oone know comes undone, you still have another knot. Keep repeating steps until you have done the entire tail.
- If there is any of the braid showing, where it shouldn't, you can color the braid. (Zoe:) I have added more yarn where there's anything like that.
- (Zoe:) I don't know what the owner of this was thinking she(or he) was going to do with the shoelace. My guess is for the waistband. I suggest you buy a pre-made braid-like thing for a waistband. It's more durable, and you can make it longer, which the shoelace can't do. Also it looks better than the shoelace.:o)
There are also 3 diffrent ways to have your tail look.
Version 1
- Don't do anything;O)
Version 2
- Fray the yarn, but don't brush
Version 3
- Fray the yarn AND brush(you will have to brush a few times to make it look good).
Lastly, if you do choose to fray, I suggest fraying as you go along, and then brush it(if you want to). I use a spiral brush to brush my tails, however, there are some people who brush their tails with dog comb. I have not tried the dog combs, as of yet.
