STAGESTAR GIG - 'CABARET'
On Sunday 2nd March 2003, the organisation 'Stagestar' held their second concert, entitled 'Cabaret' at 'The Kabaret Club' in Soho.  Amongst other West End stars including David Shannon and Krysten Cummings, Hannah performed a 30 minute section live on stage.  I was one of the lucky ones who got to be at the show that day and this page has my review and the pictures I took there.
I must firstly point out that the venue for this show was superb, it was a tiny place which made the whole event feel somewhat cosy and intimate, giving the audience a sense of connection with the performers.  The atmosphere inside was simply fantastic It must also be stated, that although this page will focus on Hannah's performance, everyone performed brilliantly that night and it must be said that I was very impressed by the amount of talent I saw from the everyone.
Hannah was last to perform, it had been a long wait and her arrival on stage was eagerly awaited but the audience were not disappointed.  She had obviously given the performance much thought and as she came up on stage, the crowd, consisting of some WWRY cast members, gave her a huge welcome. Hannah kicked off her act with Alicia Keys' 'Fallin' and sang it superbly.
This was followed up by her rendition of a song she used to sing when she was part of the cast for 'All You Need Is Love' after she had explained to the audience that she had once won an award (as part of the cast) for being in the worst musical of all time!!  She also explained that although she had won the 'Whats on Stage' award for Best Actress in a Musical she had never actually received any such trophy and so she had brought her own which she pulled from her bag.
Next came Hannah's performance "24 hours of loving" The basic idea was that it was about the different hours you go through when you spend a passionate 24 hours together with someone.
Next came a song about feminism (called "50%" I think). Hannah pointed out that she liked the song and joked that of course women are victimised.  She sang the song very well and kept the crowd amused with her witticisms.
Hannah went on to perform a very touching song next.  It was a song with a story attatched about a woman dying with nobody to love her and what she imagined someone who did love her might say to her before she died.  Hannah explained that it was a very demanding song and was clearly moved by the end.
Hannah introduced the audience to one of her best friends, Michael, whom she met whilst performing in 'Hot Stuff'.  Hannah finished off her set with two songs.  The first was one she wrote herself about love, and the way she imagines it feels to be so deeply in love with someone as a couple of people she knows.  The last was a song about being a Londoner as she wanted to let everyone know how much she loves being one!!  Overall, a fanstastic evening and a fantastic performance!!
