Macavity vs. the Great Rumpus Cat?
By : Pouncival

It all started when the Rumpus Cat was out looking for dinner. He had found a Pollicle pup sleeping in a small box. 'Cold and hungry little Poll' he thought and took him home. His parents had abandoned the pup because they already had enough trouble raising four pups. The Rumpus Cat fed the Poll and kept him warm during the night. The next morning he was trying to think of name for the little Poll. Lets see, youre white with black and brown patches. You somewhat look like my nephew Plato. So the only name I can come up with is Striker he said. Although the Rumpus Cat was Jellicle he didnt let the fact bother him and took the Pollicle to see Old Deuteronomy at the Vicarage. When Old Deuteronomy was told of Strikers abandonment he granted the Rumpus Cats wish to raise him and to be introduced to the rest of the Jellicles.

A few months later, Striker began to wonder about his past. He asked the Rumpus Cat why he didn't look like him why was he different. The Rumpus Cat told him about the night that he had found Striker and why his parents left him. Striker then asked him "But if Im Pollicle and youre Jellicle, that means were on opposites sides right?" "Yes we are on opposite sides, but you have no family that loves you like I do and that makes you part Jellicle in Old Deuteronomy's eyes" he answered. He then walked with Striker as they made their way to the Junkyard.

At the Junkyard Plato had spotted his uncle while on lookout at the front entrance and ran to greet him. "Hi Uncle Rum!" he screamed. Just then Plato's cousin and older brother Alonzo and Admetus came up to greet him as well. When they saw Striker they both turned around and yelled at the top of their lungs "POLLICLE! The Rumpus Cat has brought a Poll to the Junkyard. MUNKUSTRAP!!" Munkustrap ran to see what all the fuss was about and then let the Rumpus Cat explain why he had a Pollicle with him. When everything was understood he gathered the whole tribe to be introduced to Striker. "For Striker's sake, we will not continue disliking the Pollicles anymore" he told everyone, then let Striker get used to the Junkyard because this was going to be his second home. Plato was especially kind to Striker because not only did they look alike, but also they acted alike that you could almost bet they were twins. If it weren't for the fact that Plato was Jellicle and Striker was Pollicle they would be.

A week had gone by and Striker was a friend with all the Jellicles by then. The Rumpus Cat never was away from him for very long. The only time he would leave the Junkyard was to hunt for food or scare away Pekes that were lurking around. One night everything was peaceful everyone was just settling down to go to sleep. Plato and Striker were sleeping in Plato's pipe as the Rumpus Cat slept on top so that Striker wouldnt have to worry about where the Rumpus Cat was. Then all of a sudden, a crash was heard which woke everybody up from his or her slumber except for Plato and Striker. "Jelly, get the kittens into their chamber. I sense Macavity's near" the Rumpus Cat said. "What about Plato and Striker?" she asked him. "Don't worry about those two. They're pretty much asleep and deep inside the pipe so Macavity can't reach them." Little did the Rumpus Cat know, Macavity was already in the Junkyard, but couldn't be seen. He was entering through Plato's pipe. When Macavity saw the two sleeping, he quietly went up to them and examined them to see which one was Jellicle and which one wasn't. Let's just state the fact that Macavity does not like Pollicles and came to see if what he has been told was true. When he discovered that indeed there was a Pollicle at the Junkyard he quickly snatched Striker up thinking it was Plato and took him to his lair as a playmate for his daughters.

After everyone was calm the Rumpus Cat went to check on Plato and Striker only to discover that he was missing. He frantically searched the Junkyard but couldnt find Striker. Munkustrap immediately called a meeting to see if any one would volunteer to search for Striker outside the Junkyard. Macavity was here in the Junkyard the Rumpus Cat began and now Striker has turned up missing. "We don't know how Macavity got in but I have a feeling that he pupnapped Striker. So please help as much as you can, because if he harms the pup....there's no telling what he will do." As the Rumpus Cat finished his statement, he began to cry worried about Striker. Plato then woke up and saw that his uncle was crying and sat down beside him and said "Uncle Rum, don't worry. Everything will be fine. Striker doesnt know it yet, but soon he'll find out what a true friendship we have." "What do you mean by that Plato?" the Rumpus Cat questioned. "Striker is not the one that Macavity was after. He came for me. When Macavity realizes that he has Striker, he'll bring him back and get me instead." "Why would he want you?" his uncle asked again. "Macavity doesn't really want any one to know about this but I'll tell you anyway. He is raising my sisters while mom is taking care of me. They are so lonely there in his lair that he wanted to get a playmate for them. I was at the park one day with my owners and he came up and asked if I would because I am the same age. I volunteered and followed him back to his lair. That's why I moved to the Junkyard so he could find me easier than trying to find me at home." "Plato, I have always taught you to right from wrong. I trust you are telling the truth" the Rumpus Cat said "Can you take me to Macavity's Lair?" "Yes, but we need to hurry" Plato said. The Rumpus Cat already knew that Plato was Macavity's son, but he didnt know that he also had daughters.

Meanwhile at the lair, Macavity was wondering why Plato looked different. 'That's it,' he thought, 'I must have picked up the wrong one being that their colors are the same.' "Daddy, this isn't Plato." "I realize that now Princess and I know he's on his way. Now go get your sister Blitz so that you two can play when he gets here" Macavity said. As Plato and the Rumpus Cat just reached the entrance to Macavity's Lair, Macavity came out to greet Plato and his brother. "I'm sorry for the trouble I've caused brother. I thought that he was Plato. Son, go inside now your sisters are waiting." "Yes father. By the way, mother told me to tell you that she loves you" Plato said as he walked down the hall. "Did you harm Striker in any way?" the Rumpus Cat asked. "No, he's safe. I would never hurt a Pollicle thats too close to you" Macavity told him. Striker then came out and asked if he could stay and play with Plato and his sisters. The Rumpus Cat said ok and Macavity invited him into his lair to be entertained by the foursome as they played.

From that night on, the Rumpus Cat would personally escort Plato and Striker to Macavity's Lair to play with Blitz and Princess whenever Macavity didn't bring them to the Junkyard.
