Silambam
Like Karate, Silambam too is a martial art, practiced in various parts of Tamilnadu, India. This has nowadays turned out to be an art for entertainment rather than for attack or self-defense. It involves display of skills in handling sticks or rods, artistically weaving, rotating and wielding it. Silambam performance generally starts with the participants paying respect to the master and proceeding with 'Silavarisai', 'Vettu', 'Kuthu' etc. which are some of the paces in Silambam. In 'Thoduvilayattu' there is a strict rule the participant should not touch the rival above the shoulder, between elbow and fingers and on the hip portion.
