Across The Bridge
by Erwin Jones
Across the bridge
the people are perpetually poor
Across the bridge
many innocent children are sleeping on a cold brutal cement floor
Across the bridge
there is nothing to eat
Across the bridge
there are too many drugs and guns in the streets
Across the bridge
there are too many homeless with no place to sleep
Across the bridge
violence has become a daily ritual
Across the bridge
ghetto youths struggle to survive a life that is too brutal
Across the bridge
there are many pain and sorrow
Across the bridge
mama, will bury her son tomorrow
Across the bridge
the violence must cease
Across the bridge
there is a cry for peace
Across the bridge
on the Southside of Belize!
