Krystal Harris
Me and My Piano
By: Jennifer J
Krystal Harris first gained notoriety appearing on
the Backstreet Boys For the Fans Burger King CD promotion last summer with her
song My Religion. Her track was the last one on the CD. The name of the singer
was not mentioned, but the music was deeply insightful song and moving lyrics
that I had to find out more about her.
There is nothing wrong with tradition, but tell me where it says not to follow
our hearts...That's why so many of us are so confused, and we'll never live up
to your rules...My religion doesn't hate, it will never turn you away, it always
understands. My religion won't condemn, it will always live a helping hand...My
religion loves..."
Harris also had the honor of having her song
Supergirl, a funky pop track; appeared as the title track on The Princess
Diaries Soundtrack. But for those of us unfortunate enough to not hear these two
great songs fear not, for both of these tracks along with ten others appear on
Harris' first album Me and My Piano.
Me and My Piano is good album. Me and My Piano is
the first release from KNBHA (Kevin, Nick, Brian, Howie and AJ) Records, The
Backstreet Boys' imprint label. The songs on Me and My Piano are tight, the
melodies are catchy, and the lyrics are meaningful. Unlike the other young Pop
R&B influenced Pop Divas, Harris has a look and sound all her own. Her songs
primarily have a sassy/funky sound, with more of a rock edge that are
self-affirming. Her songs don't harp on sexual exploits, but rather
relationships, self-reflection, and spirituality.
Harris' songs range from the 50s sounding Angel on
My Shoulder, to edgy Supergirl, to classic love songs like Love is a Beautiful
Thing. Harris even ventures lightly into the electronic musical universe with
...Or Someone Else Will.
Overall I highly recommend this album. I really
enjoyed listening to this work. And I will admit at first that I wasn't
expecting much, but received much more. For fans of BSB, Harris is a natural
extension. For those looking for something new in female entertainment, that is
a little more self-respecting, and feminine, I STRONGLY suggest you get out
there and purchase Me and My Piano.
