LIZA MINNELLI TO HOST ANNUAL CAREER TRANSITION FOR DANCERS BENEFIT
Tony, Emmy and Academy Award winner Liza Minnelli will host the annual Career Transition for Dancers benefit, which is scheduled for Oct. 24 at New York's City Center.

Entitled That's Entertainment! Celebrating Career Transition for Dancers' 20th Anniversary Jubilee, the 7 PM evening, according to press notes, "will pay homage to a century of dance in American entertainment. It will be a lively jubilee that highlights a variety of styles from Ballet to Broadway to Break Dance — with a side order of circus arts for fun."

Those already lined up to take part in the evening include Polly Bergen, Marge Champion, Sandy Duncan, Mercedes Ellington, Bill Irwin, Lypsinka, Michael Moschen, Richard Move, Jane Powell, Noah Racey, Donald Saddler, Jason Samuels Smith, Ben Vereen and Mr. Wiggles. The one-night-only event will also boast artists from American Ballet Theatre, ABT Studio Company, The Big Apple Circus, Cirque du Soleil, Complexions, Crazy Legs & Rock Steady Crew with DJ Slynkee, Dance Times Square, The Joffrey Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company and the World Cup Shooting Stars All Star Cheerleading. (The roster of participants is subject to change.)

Produced and directed by Ann Marie DeAngelo, the evening will feature musical direction by Robert Mikulski.

Several awards will be given during the evening. The Joffrey Ballet, in recognition of its 50th Anniversary Celebration, will receive the Rolex Dance Award, and there will be two recipients of the Career Transition for Dancers' Award for Outstanding Contributions to the World of Dance: The Harkness Foundation for Dance and American Ballet Theatre Chairman Lewis S. Ranieri.

Career Transition for Dancers, founded in 1985, helps dancers establish new careers when dance is no longer an option. Since its inception, the organization has helped over 3,000 professional dancers begin new careers. For more information about CTFD, visit www.careertransition.org.

LIZA PENNING SCREENPLAY ABOUT LIFE IN A CABARET, AND HAS CD ACTING AND CONCERT PLANS
Life will be a cabaret once more for Liza Minnelli, who said she is writing a screenplay for an original movie about a small cabaret in New York City.

During an appearance on NBC's "Today" Feb. 8, the star of "Cabaret" said that Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Hollywood's "Chicago," TV's "Annie," "Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows") are attached to the project as producers. She would play the owner of the nightspot. It's not clear if the picture is intended for TV or feature film release.

The project is still in the very early stages. She's still writing it, she said, adding that she is now a member of the Writers Guild of America.

Minnelli said she is also working on a new album of songs by the famed actress, writer, singer and vocal coach-arranger Kay Thompson, who was Minnelli's godmother and Judy Garland's vocal guru. Thompson's vocal style was preserved in the Fred Astaire picture "Funny Face."

In addition to vocal performance bookings (including Westbury Music Fair Feb. 18-20, with Billy Stritch) and her recurring character in TV's "Arrested Development," Minnelli is also in the cast of the upcoming film, "The OH in Ohio," directed by Billy Kent. In it, she plays a sex therapist, she told Matt Lauer on "Today."

"The OH in Ohio" cast also includes Parker Posey, Paul Rudd, Danny DeVito, Keith David and Mischa Barton.

According to Internet Movie Database, the picture is about "a woman with a seemingly idyllic life" who has achieved an orgasm. "Leaving her husband, she finds her G-spot with a very unlikely companion," IMDB reports.
