What Do They Want?

ONE AND ONLY
The great question that has never been answered and which I have not yet been able to answer, despite my thirty years of research into the feminine soul, is: What does woman want?
Sigmund Freud

What this woman wants, with all due respect to S. Freud, is for men to stop asking that question and to realise that women are human beings, not some alien species. They want the same things men want.

Different things mostly. What's more
they are kind enough to tell you.

Tenderness, sensitivity, caring and security.

Women want men, careers, money, children, friends,
luxury, comfort, independence, freedom, respect,
love and a three-dollar pantyhose that won't run.
Phyllis Diller

Exactly what men want: love, money, excitement, pleasure, happiness,
fulfilling work -- and sometimes a child who will say, "I love you."

Freedom from pain, security, creature comforts, and an
end to loneliness. When you get down to the basics,
it's still the same old story, a fight for love and glory …

Any idiot would know women's needs are simple. All we want is your basic millionaire/brain-surgeon/criminal-lawyer/great dancer who pilots his own Lear Jet and owns oceanfront property. On the other hand, things being what they are today, most of us will settle for a guy who holds down a steady job and isn't carrying an infectious disease.

What do women want? A guy they can't drive crazy. There aren't
many around. But they try. They can't help it, it's their nature.

The chaste woman who teases
is worse than a streetwalker.

Seamed stockings aren't subtle but they certainly do the job. You shouldn't wear them when out with someone you're not prepared to sleep with, since their presence is tantamount to saying, "Hi there, big fellow, please rip my clothes off at your earliest opportunity." If you really want your escort paralytic with lust, stop frequently to adjust the seams.

Why does a man take it for granted that a girl who flirts with him wants him to kiss her -- when, nine times out of ten, she only wants him to want to kiss her.

Perhaps I was greedy. I know I should be grateful.
You wanted a snack and I wanted a plateful.

Have you not heard it said full oft
A woman's nay doth stand for naught.

Girls are so queer you never know what they mean. They say No when
they mean Yes, and drive a man out of his wits for the fun of it.

Louisa May Alcott - Little Women

Between a woman's Yes and No, I would not venture to stick a pin.
Miguel de Cervantes - Don Quixote

If a diplomat says, "Yes." He means "Maybe". If he says, "Maybe" he means "No". And if he says, "No" he's no diplomat. And that's an absolute contrast to a lady. If a lady says, "No" she means "Maybe". If she says, "Maybe" she means "Yes". And if she says, "Yes" she's no lady!

… and then I asked him with my eyes to ask again yes and then he asked me would I yes to say yes my mountain flower and first I put my arms around him yes and drew him down to me so he could feel my breasts all perfume yes and his heart was going like mad and yes I said yes I will Yes.

James Joyce - Ulysses
