Puthu Mandapam

          T his Mandapam built by Tirumalai Nayakar stands between the Eastern tower and the unfinished Rajagopuram. This hall is noted for Beautiful Sculptures.

Thirumalai Nayak Mahal

          T his is the palace of king Thirumalai Nayakar. Only 25% of the original palace venue remains to-day. The existing building is huge position (15m 35m) called Swarga Vilasam (I>(Celestial Adobe). The pillars of this position are 20m high and 4m in circumference. The arches are ornamented. The dome of this position is an engineering marvel. It has no girders. There is an entertainment hall (Nataka Salai) to the north Western side of the Swarga Vilasam. To the west of the Swarga vilasam, a number of rooms are situated which were meant for laisies of the Royal family.

               The remaining part of this palace, nearly 75% was destroyed after the downfall of the Nayahs.

Visitors Time

               9.00oo hours to 13.00 hours and 14.oo hours to 17.00 hours. In the evening sound and light shows are being conducted by the Department of Tourism.

				Tamil 20.15 hours.

	Fee		:	Rs. 5/- Rs.3/- and Rs.2/- (In the year 1991)

Vandiyur Mariamman Tank

          I t is at the eastern end of Madurai city. It was built in 1646 by king Thirumalai Nayak. This is one of the biggest temple tanks in India. There is a beautiful Mandapam (Pillared Hall) in the middle of the tank enshring Lord Vigneswara. The Teppakulam float festival is conducted in January February.

RajaGopuram

          T he base of the unfinished gopuram may be seen to the east of puthu mandapam. Had it been completed, it would have been one of the tallest towers in the county.

Koodal Azhagar Temple

          T o the west of the city lies, this ancient Vaishnasite temple with beautiful sculptures. The Lord here is in three posessitting., standing and reclining each depicted one above the other.
