Gilbert & Sullivan's Princess Ida Directed by Mitchell Clyde Thomas

SOME WORDS FROM THE DIRECTORS

As “visitors” to this community, we are truly in a position to say thank you to the people of Merrymeeting Community Players, the cast and crew of Princess Ida and the people of the Bath-Brunswick-Topsham area for allowing us this opportunity. This has been a wonderful experience for both of us and we are extremely proud of the way this production has proven to be both polished and professional in many ways.

This obviously would not be possible without the hard work and outstanding talent of the members of the Princess Ida cast. The principle characters will have an opportunity to show you what they have to offer as individuals and in various ensembles during this performance, however, we would be remiss not to mention what a treat it has been for us to work with both the women’s and men’s choruses in this production. To a person, they are talented individuals with a love for entertaining that ranks very high among groups we have worked with in the past. When we “inherited” this cast, the chorus had already come a long way in having their musical parts learned, which made our jobs in this department much easier. We are grateful to Jim Colby, the original director, for bringing the chorus and the rest of the cast to that level of accomplishment and for giving us such a wonderful cast with which to work. Thank you, Jim.

Our gratitude is extended to scores of people, including you who have come to see the show, and we want to leave no one out. However, a few specific words of thanks if we may. Thanks to Lennie and Henry Eichman for their dream and for making it all happen. Thanks to John and crew for giving us such an attractive stage and set on which to put our polished performers. Thanks to Ruth for the beautiful costume design and for sewing together with Henry and Wendy to make such magnificent costumes. Thanks to Heather and stage crew for the smooth and professional way the show is run. Thanks to Teresa and others for giving choral direction support when it was needed. Thanks to Lauren for all the vocal coaching given to other members of the cast and for being the best Princess any director could ask for. Thanks to Rian for his musical leadership among the men. Thanks to David and Dorothy for the wonderful promotion of the production and thanks to Catherine and Helen for filling out the rest of the orchestra and play so wonderfully.

This show is something we are both very proud to have participated in and we will cherish the experience for a very long time. We are Adamant!
